"Very nice people and helpful. But State Farm is a terrible company. I have had 6 houses and many cars in the past 40 year. Zero house claims ever. No tickets in over 20 years and three total auto claims in 40 years. A minor accident over 3 years ago, a windshield replacement about 2 years ago and a $75 chip repair a month ago. Just got a cancellation notice from State Farm headquarters. The chip repair person said insurance companies want you to do this but apparently not State Farm- 2 comprehensive claims in 2 years was what State Farm gave for a reason. The price for the policies (2 houses, 2 cars, umbrella and earthquake) was pretty good so I gave a few recommendations. Now I have told those people and many more that they should avoid State Farm like the plague. Again, very nice people at this agency but I would not recommend State Farm to my worst enemy. Well, maybe my worst enemy but that is about it. Stay away from Jake and State Farm and don't be fooled by the low initial rate. I was a CPA for 40 years and should have done my homework better. Live and learn. Maybe read Reddit and see a bunch of similar stories....which I did after they cancelled me. Note to Chris.....Thanks for the reply. Again, you guys did a great job and I realize it was not your decision to cancel me. However, I had no idea or guidance re the 60 day policy. - would have been nice to be given some guidance as I am not in the insurance business. I received no guidance or follow up after signing up. No big problem for me since Firstmark gave me a similar price with Travelers. But your company is doing you a disservice by not checking out my entire history and having a really moronic policy such as this, given my history of hemorrhaging money for insurance over the years and making very few claims. Besides the 6K plus per year from me, I give tons of referrals, and one has already come to you (Phil W)....although he was very disturbed by my treatment and is looking to change to Firstmark - who handles multiple companies (not State Farm). Not to mention referrals from my prior clients (over 1000)....I like to tell people about both good and bad experiences. Nor my fixed annuities that I am planning to renew in the near future (over 400K). You probably do just fine but not a bad idea to let State Farm know policies like this are costing agents like yourself considerable money in the long run. Although I do plan to let them know and hope to have an opinion article published in the WSJ shortly about insurance cancellations. I was clueless but am learning about the industry, mostly the hard way. Again, this was a $75 claim that was meant to avoid replacing a $1500 windshield. Throwing away thousands of dollars in premiums for $75 is beyond stupid - this is intended for the State Farm headquarters people who obviously have some algorithm that they moronically instituted into their business model. One final note regarding your comment that this is like getting in a fight on your first date. Did they teach you this line at the State Farm school of salesmanship and tact? Seriously?.....someone with 3 claims in 40 years (various cars and 6 or more houses over the term) files a $75 glass chip repair claim (which potentially saves $1500 for a new windshield) and this is a fight on the first date? I wonder what you folks are like when someone makes a major claim. If $75 is a fight for the insurance clowns, I would hate to see what happens if there was a serious accident. Cancelling someone over paying out $75 (to save $1500) when you are talking about over 6K in yearly premiums? Beyond dumb. Not your call, I realize, so I suppose rationalizing this witless policy is probably what they tell you must do when someone with a near perfect 40 year history gets CANCELLED FOR MAKING A $75 GLASS CHIP REPAIR CLAIM. Now that is State Farm service at its finest."
"Hey David. I really appreciate your positive feedback about my agency. I’m sorry we weren’t able to continue your policies both here and in Arizona. Obviously, we don’t make any money by non-renewing people, especially when you’re a new client, but filing a claim within the first 60 days of having a policy is similar to getting in a fight on your first date. It’s not our decision to be able to continue or terminate the policy when we’ve had a claim experience that early on in the relationship. I’m certain the rock chip people told you the insurance company wants to file. Still, in the future, it may be better to consult your agent before filing the claim to get their take on whether it is a smart idea to file and take your insurance advice from the insurance company."
